'Invisible Man' Plot summary: A brilliant yet deranged chemist discovers a formula for invisibility, leading him down a terrifying path of insanity and destruction as he unleashes unprecedented power upon an unsuspecting world.
This film gave us an excellent villain, one of the first, and he is just pure evil. If Superman had not come out the year before, the Invisible Man would have been the first human with super powers in film.
The unforgettable voice of Rains truly carries the film, bringing chilling life to the unseen antagonist, making him both menacing and strangely compelling. You can’t help but cheer for this villain as he creates chaos and you won’t ever forget certain scenes, so iconic, we only wish the film had a score throughout.
Beyond its narrative, the film showcases special effects so revolutionary they must have profoundly shocked contemporary audiences. The innovative technique, involving shooting on a completely black set covered in non-reflective black velvet, was ahead of its time and remains visually striking today. Only one lament remains: the absence of a more consistent musical score throughout.
Directed by James whale, also known for 'Frankenstein' (1931), 'The Old Dark House' (1932), and 'The Bride Of Frankenstein' (1935).
'The Invisible Man' cast features: Claude Rains, Gloria Stuart, William Harrigan, Una O’Connor, Henry Travers, and others.
