Another remake of 'Frankenstein' (1931), based on Mary Shelley's novel, "The Modern Prometheus" (1818), but this film is told from Igor's perspective.
The visuals are expertly crafted, decadent sets, elaborate period costumes, and incredible digital effects that help to transport us to a different world.
The atmosphere is glossy and frenetic, London streets, brass machinery, and surgical theatres that feel ripped from a graphic novel; the film has a steampunk vibe, but it's a little too clean and slick.
McAvoy delivers an electric performance, bringing manic brilliance and moral decay, while Radcliffe grounds the film with earnest vulnerability as Igor.
We wish the film was a little bit scarier, there were some scenes that could have dialed up the violence.
There is a little bit of body horror, we wish they had taken this further, really grossed us out.
This is a great re-interpretation of the story, really well done, so beautiful and cinematic, a fresh take that we think will stand the test of time.
