This Spanish film takes place in Chile's remote sunbaked landscape, and if you don't speak Spanish you will have to watch with subtitles.
This deeply unsettling paranormal film plunges viewers into a world of dark Indigenous mysticism where strange phenomena unfold, unnerving rituals are performed and there are countless scorpions.
A visual feast, the aesthetic is beautiful, featuring evocative settings and cinematography, complemented by a hypnotic tribal instrument score.
Canning gives a great performance as the unraveling and helpless Mom, matched by Klyne's performance as the haunting and intense son.
We do wish that the film leaned harder into the indigenous culture side of the story, as well as the missionary aspects, there was an opportunity for more depth.
Although a little underdeveloped, this film is definitely worth watching if you love exorcism flicks, a very memorable and scary possessed boy.

Directed by Antonio Negret, this was their first attempt at a horror film.
