"someone is out to make a sequel to the requel... but nobody makes sequels anymore, we're in a franchise".
This sequel is unfortunately the first flop in the franchise, and although the film is watchable and enjoyable, you may want to consider not watching it and calling the franchise complete with the previous film.
It's always a sign that a franchise is fresh out of ideas when they do a sequel in New York City, the film really delivers in terms of New York city kitsch, but why? All of these characters happen to have moved to the city for some reason (You can make a drinking game out of spotting famous horror characters in the subway scene).
The massive cold open that takes place on Halloweekend might have been better than the rest of the film.
The film is seriously lacking in the iconic humour we expect of the franchise, but there are some good death scenes that make it enjoyable.
By far the best part of the film is legacy character Gale Weathers, played by Courtney Cox, without her the movie would have been very boring and we can't help but wish that she had been the central character, just Ghostface trying to kill her.
We do not recommend watching the next sequel 'Scream 7' (2026), it's worse than this film and almost unwatchable.
