'Night Patrol' Plot summary: An LAPD officer must put aside his differences with the area's street gangs when he discovers a local police task force is harboring a horrific secret that endangers the residents of the housing projects he grew up in.
This thriller is one part cop shoot-em-up thriller, one part vampire carnage, and just a dash of superhero thrown in.
The film is very similar to 'Sinners' (2025), with the blood thirsty vampires being representational of real life societal issues, the vampires in this film are a metaphor for the real-life policing of marginalized communities the USA.
This is a very loud action-like film high on gunshots and gore.
A bit hard to follow the story at times, some uneven pacing, but still watchable.
Long really steals the show, a bit weird for the white actor to be the star in a black film, but his performance is excellent.
'Night Patrol' is directed by rookie Ryan Prows, this is his first true horror film, he directed one of the shorts in 'V/H/S/94 (2021), and is also know for his horror adjacent directorial debut 'Lowlife' (2017).
'Night Patrol' cast features: Jermaine Fowler, Justin Long, Freddie Gibbs, RJ Cyler, YG, Nicki Micheaux, Flying Lotus, Phil Brooks, Dermot Mulroney, and others.
Trigger Warnings: gun violence, racial slurs, forcible confinement, gangs, and racism.
