The Running Man

2025

Edgar Wright

Sci-Fi, Thriller, Action, Based On Book, Remake

'The Running Man' Plot Summary: Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards joins a game show in which contestants, allowed to flee anywhere in the world, are pursued by "hunters" hired to kill them.

This dystopian thriller is a remake of 'The Running Man' (1987), based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King; this remake is much closer source material than it's 80's counterpart.
The world building is excellent, it's a slick industrial and neon dystopian future that is bleak and believable, complemented by a gritty score that perfectly animates the action sequences (Powell does most of the stunts himself).
The film is too long, we wish that all of the scenes with Cera's character were cut in editing, that was a bizarre departure from the story, not worth the silly humour.
Glen Powell gives a great performance as the lead and also nearly bares all, showing off his impressive physique.
The film is high on action and stress with minimal gore and on screen kills, teens can watch this one.
Directed by Edgar Wright, known for 'Shaun Of The Dead' (2004), and 'Last Night In Soho' (2021).
'The Running Man' cast features: Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Sean Hayes, Katy O'Brian, and others.
