'The Mummy' Plot Summary: The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace-eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.
This is a not another remake of The Mummy (1932), nor a reboot of the previous franchise or related to the standalone 2017 film; the director has said this film takes place in the same universe as the Evil Dead Franchise.
Described as "breathing modern life into ageless evil", we believe the director was kind of trying to give the finger to the constant Hollywood cycle of remaking films and not bringing fresh stories.
The characterization of the grandmother is excellent, we wish the the rest of the cast had been more fleshed out so we could have been more attached to their outcome.
The film wasn't very scary, but it was spectacularly gross, with excellent body horror gore effects that will make even a horror veteran's stomach churn.
Much of the film takes place in a very unique house, the set design for this house was excellent and definitely underutilized.
The film is long, some of the ideas could have been cut, the found footage storyline perhaps.
Not a lot of kills, we only get one really disturbing and satisfying kill, surely a waste of the funeral scene.
Grace gives a great performance in ungraceful role of the mummy, but Falcón really stole our hearts in her supporting character role as the grandmother.
The director had a unique style, especially with cinematography, but needed to be reigned in a bit; none the less we cannot wait to see what they come up with next.
Directed by Lee Cronin, known for 'Evil Dead Rise' (2023), he definitely has not made enough films to be putting his name in the movie title yet
‘The Mummy’ cast features: Veronica Falcón, Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Billie Roy, Hayat Kamille, Natalie Grace, Shylo Molina, and May Elghety.
*Trigger Warnings: child abduction, forcible confinement, animal attack*
